The story of Rangi and Papa's Bliss
'Rangi and Papa's Bliss' is inspired by Sofia's deep respect for the land and mythology of Aotearoa. This painting is a celebration of the love between Ranginui (sky father) and Papatuanuku (earth mother). Before man walked the earth it is said that Rangi and Papa held each other closely and had many children. The children lived in the dark, stifling world between their parent's intimate embrace. Eventually Tane gathered all his strength and separated his parents so he and his brothers could finally stand tall. Legend has it that these children of Rangi and Papa became the mighty gods of Aotearoa.
