A diverse collection of my new and past paintings are being showcased, many of which have yet to be seen in Auckland.
VIEW PAST AND PRESENT EXHIBITION
One of the works is a new oil portrait of a wahine toa (courageous woman) entitled "Sophia," which is hot off the easel (pictured above).
Sophia is the goddess of wisdom from Gnostic Christianity and this piece celebrates mana wahine (the divine feminine) as well as finding a stable centre of Self within Maori and Pakeha world views.
"We might share the same name but I see this portrait as being someone with a character I aspire to. I hope her mana and strength of spirit can inspire us to open our eyes, open our hearts and become the heroes of our own myths."
