Gaia, Supreme Goddess
Original painting Sold, oil on canvas, 300 x 300mm, 2008
The Gaia hypothesis proposes that the earth's ecology is a complex interacting system of living and non-living parts that can be thought of as a single organism. Gaia is also the ancient Greek goddess of the earth. In this work the two concepts merge as the tulip opens and reveals our earth in its centre. The natural environment and our earth are treasures and this work presents this theme along with the notion of the sacred female, unfolding and creation.
