African Paean

Original painting Sold, oil on canvas, 1300 x 1300mm, 2006

'Paean' (pee-an) is a word with Latin origins meaning a song or expression of praise, triumph and joy. The woman in the painting comes from no particular African tribe but she embodies a spirit of the ancient land. She beats her drum, she dances and she sings for the living soul of Africa.
